Installation and Font Types

For the most up to date installation procedures for other operating systems please visit our Technical Support / FAQ site at http://www.bizfonts.com/fontfaq.htm

The following font types are included with the IDAutomation.com, Inc. font set:

"n1" in font name

Font files that include "n1" in the file name and font name are approximately 15% lighter that the standard version. The lighter versions are provided to support printers that print slightly darker than normal.

TrueType (.ttf)

This is the TrueType font format. It is used in Windows and OS/2 operation systems. Copy this font into the \Windows\Fonts folder and reboot to enable.  This TrueType font may be used in other operating systems if information is provided by the OS vendor on using standard Windows TrueType fonts.

To install the TrueType Sample RM4SCC Font in Windows:

Type 1 (.pfb and .pfa)

PostScript Type 1 font format. It can be used UNIX systems and may be downloaded into PostScript printers if the OS and printer support it. The file with the ".pfb" extension is Binary and can also be used in Windows and OS/2 operating systems. Currently, Windows systems require ATM (Adobe Type Manager) to be installed before you can use install and use the PostScript Type 1 fonts. The ".pfb" file contains the outlines, while a ".pfm" file carries the metrics. Both the ".pfb" and ".pfm" are required. The file with the ".pfa" extension is the ASCII version.

Macintosh TrueType Binary (.mtt)

This TrueType version is formatted for the Macintosh computer in MacBinary format. This encodes both resource and data forks into one file. After it is copied to the MAC it must be decoded. There are several MAC programs that can decode MacBinary files. In our example below, we use Stuffit Expander available from Aladdin Systems.

To install the font on the Macintosh:

  1. Download and install Stuffit Expander on your Macintosh.
  2. Open the distribution file that contains the font.
  3. Click on your hard drive icon, open the System folder,
  4. In the System folder, open the Fonts folder.
  5. Double click on the file with the name ending in ".mtt" and move it to the fonts folder.
  6. Reboot your Macintosh.
  7. The font will be active in the font menu of your application. Since the Macintosh displays fonts in the format of the font, your font may appear partially blank in the font menu.  This is normal.
  8. To create the correct output for the font you will need to choose the font and type in the corresponding letter as in figure 1-3 above.

Macintosh Type 1 (.mt1 and .bma)

Macintosh systems require ATM (Adobe Type Manager) to be installed before you can use install and use the PostScript Type 1 fonts.  The ".mt1" file is the Type 1 printer font file and the ".bma" is the screen font file. These files are also encoded in MacBinary format.

PCL Compatible (.sfp & .sfl)

The PCL fonts are included in a separate ZIP file named PCL.ZIP within the distribution ZIP file. These PCL fonts are to be downloaded to PCL compatible printers. 300 DPI versions contain the number 3 and 600 DPI versions contain the number 6.  .sfp files are portrait and .sfl files are of landscape orientation.

With the purchase of a Developer License and 1 year of support and upgrade protection, we can convert fonts from this package to PCL 4, Xerox Metacode, XES, FNT, BDF, FON and AFP. More about this is provided here. The Developer License also grants you the right to convert our fonts to other formats as necessary including TrueDoc and OpenType.
